I ran across this Time Mag article this morning on cnn.com and it mentioned some interesting and good things that are happening for our four legged buddies.
- Turns out it was Minnesota Senator Al Franken that wrote the law ordering the VA (and Army) to undertake studies of PSD's in the hope of validating their efficacy and allowing them to become part of standard PTSD treatment protocol.
This was his first bill as a freshman senator, and it happend as a result of a CHANCE MEETING with Luis Carlos Montalvan and his PSD Tuesday at a White House event. This is the same Luis and Tuesday from the "and Man created Dog" NATGEO program.
- Justice dept lifts the restriction that dogs trained for PTSD-specific tasks must be trained by ADI certified schools in order to qualify within the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Reason cited was high cost of ADI trained dogs excludes people with limited financial resources from receiving the benefit, and that ADI-level training was more than what was required for enabling a PTSD task-specific trained dog.
So, this makes it possible for more local, specialized trainers to provide dogs for vets and get them working together.
Thanks for the links Tim. Our Vet's deserve nothing but the very best care possible. PTSD is a very tough thing for our Vet's to overcome. I love this idea, and really hope to read more stories like the ones in this Time news article, in the future.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the links!!!!
This is great news!!!!
I am keeping all these articles that you guys post in a folder so I can put them up on the website when we get it going.
