I am looking for a really good shampoo for my terriers. I see those at the pet store but I am not sure that they are good ones. My dogs don't have baths very frequently but in the winter get pretty dirty digging in the dirt and mud. they have that typical terrier hair.
Appreciate your help. Sharon
You're not supposed to use human stuff on your dog (though I admit I've added a bit to his old store brand dog shampoo at times because it smells nicer >_> he smelled like rotten dirt and his stuff wasn't working >_>
AHEM anyway. I personally look more towards the natural oatmeal shampoos at this point. The one I have now contains a couple of plant extracts and oatmeal...doesn't have any of the acids or sulfer stuff in it. The stuff I have is from a local company but I'm sure there's something similar on the market in most pet stores.
For the terrier part. We used this stuff on my parent's dog who's a Portuguese Water Dog (hair like terriers have, not fur) and my neighbors lakeland terrier with great results. Made my parent's dog smell great (which is quite a feat) and really helped her skin. The lakeland who's got REALLY sensitive skin is also doing well, no irritation

I don't bath my dog very often but when I did I used a shampoo called Green Bulldog. It is organic and biodegradable and has tea tree essential oils for itchiness and hot spots and eucalyptus essential oils as a flea repellant.
I found it also helped keep mosquitos away in the summertime.
I love Pet Head by Tigi. They make a formula called Dirty Talk that is really good. The clean smell lingers for DAYS and if they get damp again (from going outside or whatnot) it brings the shampoo smell out again. Smells like human shampoo but make for dogs. I use Tigi's human line for myself called Bed Head. They make terrific products!
Oddly, Collies don't really smell, but I had to bathe Brodie once after he got really muddy. The shampoo did not cause any skin irritation problems. It rinsed out very easily and had no noticable perfumey odor.
