We bought a bark collar for Vader last night I did everything to avoid it but his whining and barking has gotten out of control. He is out of his crate all day with us, goes everywhere with me in the car, and is really only crated at night. Lately though, he's resorted to near constant barking no matter how tired he is and no matter how many toys/treats I leave with him. It's to the point that we are afraid our neighbors were going to complain and since we live in a townhome, we don't need to get evicted because of our dog. Also, we are taking him to stay with us over Christmas and I don't want him to be barking constantly at my in-laws house and ruining Christmas for everyone. Other than the barking he is a wonderful dog so I'm hoping this will fix the problem. He wore it last night and got a few corrections before giving up and laying down. I know it's necessary but it still makes me feel bad that we had to do it. Someone tell me we aren't horrible...
You are not horrible. Sometimes these things are unavoidable. Maybe after a few days he will get it and you will be able to take it off, I've had a few fosters like that.
when my marley girl would run outside when I would try to leave it drove me nuts. then one day she tried to go behind me and me not realizing her paw was in the door I went to shut it and she let out a wail! I felt so bad...like the biggest heel. But you know what? She doesn't try to get out anymore and I don't feel so bad anymore.
Just focus on how much more relaxed you'll be since he isn't barking any more. When you're happier and more relaxed he will be too. Because if you're a bit on edge it'll affect him.
Okay, I don't feel guilty anymore This has been a sanity saver! We've had two days of peace and quiet and I feel like I have my house back! Vader seems to be understanding that the crate means it's time to be quiet and isn't even wearing it right now but is sleeping quietly in his kennel. I left it on him for five minutes and after he calmed down I took it off. He curled up and went right to sleep! Woohoo!!!

Then stick it in the mail! I'll be expecting a package,
I would but he's too darn smart..he'd see me packing it up, wait until it was gone, and then embark on a 24 hour bark fest For now it seems to work to lay it on the counter in front of his crate...he hasn't worn it at all today. Its' sheer presence is working miracles lol...
