I have a female GSD that is just about to turn two. I belong to a schutzhund club and our helper has not taught her how to fight. She goes through the motions in protection, she does a really nice bark & hold, she is learning the side transport and she already runs the blinds. She has a nice full, calm grip on the sleeve. We have had a couple of seminars and the trainers have all commented about her. They have told me she has plenty of courage, but she lacks fight. I am working with a new helper that said she stands her ground and barks but when she bites there is no fight. Is it to late to teach her this?
Age wise, she's probably old enough to see a little more pressure. But trust your helpers. Schutzhund is about points, don't set your training back trying to bring out some aggression that she may not have.
Sorry it is a Schutzhund question. She does everything I ask of her, but I keep being told she lacks fight. I am pretty new to this sport only 1-1/2 and this is my first dog. She is very confident and has very good drives I'm told. We have back tied her but she does not seem to view the helper as a threat.
There are probably (most likely) other views on that 'little' point of seeing the helper as a threat, but isn't it suppose to be fun?
Go with the flow, if the dog is having fun and progressing and you're having fun and progressing what's to worry about?
Randy, yes she fights the tug toy when we do obedience and she is that way when we play tug at home, just not on the sleeve.
Yes the helper gives the sleeve, but he does not give it right away.
She has started to growl a bit when she is on the sleeve when he tries to go over her head with the stick, this just started the last couple weeks. She is very possesive of the sleeve when she drops it and growls at him if he comes close to her.
