Zuki just took a leap off a 4 foot ledge onto concrete. Her front legs went out from under her and she fell on her face She seems unhurt but she has never done any jumping and I am sure it did hurt. Any advice or do you think she will be ok? I looked her over throughly and found nothing and she indicates that she wants to play more but I stopped.
Totally agree with Jennifer. Any number of things can happen if they land the wrong way but they’ll generally show some sign of discomfort.
I routinely have my boys jump up and off things to feel/utilize different muscles and get them comfortable with jumping/landing, should the need arise.
While out hiking this weekend we hit a jackpot of agility type stuff but specifically significant to your situation, was this old abandoned cattle shoot/holding pen type area. After we checked the structure out for stability, the boys had a great time jumping on and off of it. Of course, difference being, this is only about 3 ft and they are landing on snow covered grass. However, it does prepare them for situations like the leap Zuki took.
CJ I must say those are some beautiful looking dogs you have there .
Maggie has taken a few good falls and "ate the dirt" pretty hard. She has gotten scratches and actually did a little pulled muscle around the joint action. She still acts like nothing ever happened and wants to keep going around and playing. My theory (whether right or wrong) is that I try not to worry to much unless they are limping or whining and even then I try have them "tough it out" overnight and see how they act the next day unless its an obviously bad injury. Otherwise I will give her a quick look over and then its back to our day as usual. You dont want to make to big a deal about it either because then she can become afraid or just learn that she gets special attention when she acts different (limping, whining, ect) . I think she will be fine..a little sore but fine.
