Damn FaceBook anyway. My friends all share stuff about dogs that are in shelters and need rescuing and things like that.
I just got one that is an album of dogs that were PTS in New York. I am still crying for these dogs. I was just writing about how spoiled my dogs are at Christmas and how I would like nothing more than to spend all day with them... and then BAM! Look at FB and start bawling like a little girl....
I don't know if this is a public album or not but here is the page http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/album.php?aid=28871&id=152876678058553
Don't look if you will get sad or mad easily. Some of the dogs have notes about why they were surrendered... one that I clicked on said "no time." WTF???? There are so many ways of finding a decent home for a dog, but to just let it die alone and scared in a shelter is just utterly, morally, F-ing wrong.
So many of these dogs are older, or are sick. A friend of mine used to manage the local humane society. She said she came in one day and found a senior Dalmation tied to the door outside. The dog had a huge tumor on her side. My friend took the dog to the vet, and there was no hope, so she let the dog go to the Bridge. The dog had a friendly hand on her head as she went, but I bet all the money in the world that she would have preferred to have her owner of many years at her side. It has been about 15 years, and my friend says not a day goes by that she doesn't think about that dog. I wonder, who will the dog meet at the Bridge.. my friend or her owners? I am betting on my friend...
Dear Santa,
Can you make it so that people will love their animals and there will be no need for shelters? Then no more animals will die needlessly.

My 6 yr old just caught me looking at those pictures. First off he asked if I was looking for a dog for Papa (his Grandpa is looking for a dog). I said no, I was just looking.
Then he told me " Just look at their eyes. They just want you to get them out of there. " How does a 6 yr old get this, but a HUGE portion of the adult population in America does not?
