Just noticed my 5m.old siberian husky puppy,(we got her at 3 months) has been loosing her teeth. We have been careful not to be rough with her. We just also had a new snow and she has been very active today, its her first snow. I have a question she hasn't been eating well today, usually she gobbles it up and she ate fine yesterday. When I handed it to her she ate one piece at a time. Keep in mind I never hand feed her food, just seeing if she would eat something. She has been very playful and active, so I don't think she's sick. Has anyone noticed this happening to there dog at this age when they lost their teeth or if you have a puppy and have experienced the same thing. Thanks Lisa

Her tummy might be a bit upset from ingesting alot of snow from playing in it. She may also get the 'runs' from the snow. Pups often do if they ingest snow. She may be tired tonight also. Romping in the snow, especially deeper snow, takes alot more work.
Is she raw fed? If so...see if she will just eat some ground meat for tonight. (I wouldn't do that for more then a couple of days, as she will not be getting a balanced diet which is very important for a growing pup) Her mouth may be sore & she may be overtired.
See if she will go back to her normal diet tomorrow.

Anne, thanks for writing, makes sense, she was quite excited today. We feed her california natural dry food. When we first got her I investigated all the options from leerburg site for feeding and had wrote to Ed as well. Unfortunately I couldn't find it in me to raw feed her, I know this is the best option, but I tryed to buy the best recommended dry food possible. We also bought the cd's to start our venture with our new pup.I have recieved valuable advice from this site and continue to do so. I really appreciate you writing back so soon, she is pooped out in her crate right now. I guess I should be careful with her intake of snow. Thanks you so much and have a nice night.Lisa

Sorry, when you said a piece at a time, I was thinking chicken necks or something like that.
You might try wetting it a bit,as it will be softer if her mouth is sore.
You might even bait it a bit with some salt free chicken broth instead of water.

No problem,I was actually thinking that she would probably like it less crunchy, I will see how she does in the morning and make it alittle moist to make it easier for her, these tips are very helpful. I have had cats for 12 yrs. Had dogs growing up, a husky and 2 pekingese, poms, but it has been a long time, everything is new now, I don't remember doing anything for my dogs then that I do now. She's definately better off. lisa

You could also try canned food.
You want to know for sure that the teething is the problem, since you want to keep an eye on any pup this age with inappetance.
You could use the same brand, same protein source. I would give a small snack-meal of canned to start, because there is sometimes a bowel reaction with a change from canned to kibble and vice versa, and you don't want an added challenge. Canned usually has much less starch than kibble, if it's a good one.
Small more frequent meals to start are best with any diet change, actually.
Let us know!

Connie, she did have an issue when changing foods at 3months when we got her, we changed the dog food from the kennel with the one we are using now, she had diarrhea and ed suggested pumpkin which helped the problem.
She is about 28 lbs now and has been very healthy. I do get nervous when making any kind of adjustment, diarrhea is not fun.
We did get 2 ft of snow and because this was her first one she was quite excited today. She actually was alittle nervous last night because of the winds. This is an awesome site to get great hints, appreciate it,lisa

You could give snack-size trials, which will tell you if her appetite returns with soft food.
PS
Plain pumpkin is something for every dog owner always to have in the pantry. :-)
The leftovers even freeze fine (although it changes the texture somewhat ... no matter).

Yup. We have learned a lot about canine health and nutrition and even more about different training methods.
