Well unfortunately at our high distraction spot this morning (the local deli) i was inside the dog was outside waiting like she always does 3 or 4 times a week, and some ignorant fool gotta have a big problem with the dog sitting away from the door not bothering anyone I had to coax this guy inside (i would assume he was scared) then hes telling me that the dog cant be there just a scared ignorant individual, I said shes being trained she not gonna bother you, then he says to me "Yeah well I'll kill you and that dog" Now I was very calm up to this point but that changed it, so i was finished getting my things and as I am leaving he starts to follow me out, the dog is not trained to display threat or anything really protection oriented yet. So i did not try to get her to or expect her to do anything we just left and probably will not go back, however this could really happen anywhere and I am more concerned when my wife is out with the dog than myself. I would assume i would need a decoy to begin this work any other advice from people that have the experience with this. Mondioring is our goal so going along with those exercises would be best but im open to suggestions.

Couldn't get much closer than he was, and I'm 6'1" this guy had like 6 inches and 50 pounds on me. Didn't show i was scared but I kinda was. And yes people are crazy.
Hmm. I'm no expert but you are probably on-target with needing a decoy and such.
I did have an older GSD before my current Mal pup, and she would do the "bark and hold" despite not having any protection training whatsoever. Shouldn't be hard to get her going. Good luck.

No the dog was outside the store when he got in my face, staying perfectly like she was supposed to. He was scared to come within 10 feet of her when she was tied to less than a 4 foot line and just sitting waiting for me to come out. Thats why i had to coax him in the store.
I live in a pedestrian-friendly area of town, and I would love to be able to leave my dog for just a second while I ran into a store, but I value his life too highly to take that kind of risk.
I don't trust other people not to hurt or steal my dog, or in ignorance cause an accident.
Honestly, I bullshat my way thru on occassion,
In my best command voice it's
"Working dog stand aside"
Of course Erika looks and acts the part quite well. by the time they figure it out I'm done tucking my shirt in or paid for my item and gone
