His name is Bogie and he's an Australian Shepherd/Heeler cross.
Unfortunately I lost my Texas Lacy right after T'giving under very unusual circumstances. As in, I woke up to find him dead. He was only 2 years old; the other 2 Shih Tzus in the yard were fine; there was no blood, no injuries, no caught collar, no nothing I could find wrong. He was only 2 years old.
But we love camping with our dogs and Ranger was my son's 'trail buddy' as I hope Bogie will be too.
Deb, I'm embarrassed to say I skimmed over your earlier post and saw the cute pic and "my new camping buddy" without reading further... Randy's post caught my eye.
I'm sorry to hear about your other dog. Was your vet able to determine what happened? Any chance your dog was poisoned? Were they kept outside all the time? This info is important for the safety of your new pup as well as your other two dogs...
Actually I was out of town for a week & my neighbors were feeding the animals (as they've done quite a few times in the past). Ranger & the 2 Shih Tzus were in a fenced backyard. Sometime between 6PM and 2PM the next day, Ranger died and was found in complete rigor around 2PM. They examined him as best they could -- found no wounds, cuts, marks, swellings, no foam in the mouth, collar wasn't caught on anything. The other 2 dogs were/are fine. He'd just had his 2 yr checkup a week before and pronounced in perfect health.
Since I wasn't coming back until 5 days later, they buried him in part of my yard beyond the fencing. So no vet autopsy. He was in perfect health when I left. The breeder was as dumbfounded as I was about what could have happened. Best we can theorize is he had a seizure or stroke. Even though he'd never had any illness before. We just don't know.
