Hi everyone,
I have a gsd male who just turned 13 months old,
I plan to get a sch title with him in the future.
I am wondering that if I take him to join the 'CANINE GOOD CITIZEN' training class in local petsmart, would that be a bad idea for the future bh and sch training ?
Would the canine good citizen training conflict with the BH traing and SCH training ?

Why go to a class?
You can train everything for the CGC yourself, very easily.
All the dog needs to do is walk on a loose leash, sit, down, stay and tolerate petting.
Our Schutzhund club sponsors it's own CGC most years. There's no conflict in the training *necessary* for the CGC. With that said, I don't like Petsmart group classes for anything but a trained dog who needs work around distractions- something that you can get easily once you join a club.

Go ahead and join. If you can find a group that does both the CGC and TDI even better. There are a few HO insurance agents around here that will cover a restricted breed if they have their CGC certificate.
How much training does your pup have now?

You don't have to join a group to do the CGC or the TDI.

That's the thing my pup needs to be trained with, he is doing fine and acceptable on the commands I give him until any dog or cat or people (espescially when they are jogging) pass by.

It's kind of embarrased to say that my pup only knows basic commands.
Like sits, platz, blibe, stay down and sit(like about 25~30 feet away without distraction),stand, outs, leave it.
Currently working on fuss, but man, it is so hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would train "watch me." (Tell us if you are not familiar with it.)
Then I would take the commands on which he is 100% solid without distraction and start by changing venue, say. (A dog will often be trained to perceive that "sit" means "sit when we are in the living room in that spot." ) Also, changing venue is a nice slow way to start distractions (a new place being a mild distraction in itself).
Then I would sloooowly add other distractions. Maybe someone can watch from the next room. Maybe on the porch, someone can be within eyesight in the yard and rake. Maybe you have a neutral dog friend to walk by quietly. A child can stand nearby. Later two kids might play nearby. You might have someone make a noise (clap, whistle).
Later you might work near a playground or at the edge of a parking lot.
You see where I'm going .....
Nothing is trained until it's proofed.
