Picking up a new pup from Betty at Little River Canine E litter on the 21st the flight is gonna be at least 7-8 hours.. Any recommendations on ways to entertain the pup or maybe if required safely sedate him? He's gonna be 8 weeks I'm not sure that i can even do that but if there's something herbal even I'm up for ideas. Are bully sticks a safe idea?

I wouldn't give him anything. My pup was in transport for 12 hours, which included 2 flights, and never got out of the kennel. When I let him out at my end, he was totally fine! He was also 8 weeks old.
Putting anything in the kennel is ASKING for trouble. You are required to have a dish clamped on to the door so they can pour water in from the outside. You are also not allowed to sedate them, and I wouldn't recommend trying anything herbal. He'll be fine, and they sleep most of the time anyhow.
Congrats on the new pup! Pictures???
Pup is traveling in the plane under the seat in front of me hence the concern for keeping a quite pup.
Ah, I see. Hmmm, that would be a dilemma for me. While I totally understand wanting to keep them close to you, an 8 week old pup could be a bit unpredictable in that situation. I would definitely bring a blanket to put over the crate, frozen stuffed kongs, bully sticks, salmon skin bones (although they are a bit stinky). I think a variety of frozen stuffed kongs would be the best bet.
I would almost consider having the pup put with the rest of the animals... It's temp controlled, dark, and I think you would have a less stressful flight possibly. I don't know what they would do if the little guy wouldn't stop screaming... are you allowed to take them out at all? I suppose not.
Those roly poly cuties are and always will be perfect little angels.......well.....except when they're not. Congratulations on your new family member!
Do you already have your return ticket? When I brought my pup home, I also had him under the seat in front of me and he was great but I did arrange my flight as a connection with a two hour lay over to break up the monotony and get the pup out for a break. It worked out really well for us and like Phaedra mentioned he slept the majority of the time. I think he was lulled by the sound of the engine.
When I picked up Fetz as an eight week old puppy in Iowa, he was a little angel on the ride home, he quietly slept in my lap the entire way.
That was the *last* quiet moment that I can remember, as soon as we got home it was: "KOWABUNGA"!!!!......and he's been a high-drive maniac for almost nine years now...
So far, almost all his spawn have follwed that pattern < insert evil laughter >
Phaedra, thanks for the input!! We aren't sure which boy we're getting yet still waiting on test results. Although, Betty knows her dogs so, I'm sure one of them will be exactly what I need. Just sooo excited to start this new journey.
