I've been searching for a PPD trainer in Washington - preferrably Seattle or north. The only 2 I've been able to locate are in Tacoma & Olympia - both of which are over an hour away from where I live.
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks!

Lol. I was going to suggest a couple. But they are in Tacoma and Olympia.... Aaron- you out there tonight? You know anyone up in Seattle?
Shade Whitesel is a fantastic versatile trainer/handler, but does not do PPD to my knowledge. She does do bite sports. She come to Seattle, but I'm not sure on what schedule anymore. You might give her a call. http://www.shadesdogtraining.net/index.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLQxqgtGeOk Shade and her ScH3/ring sport dog Reiki.

My recommendations mirror yours.
Work with Shade, get the OB and control on the dog.
She goes up and visits Matt Newkoop's ring club in Seabeck a lot- she knows more about suit work than people realize.

Shade and Reiki performed well at the UScA Nationals, btw.
She has proven you can make it to that level with marker training.

I have an evaluation scheduled next week with the gentleman in Olympia. I'll see how that goes. The guy in Tacoma is quite reputable but not sure I want to pay an additional $985 for the non-negotiable required 10 private obedience lessons (regardless of what training your dog already has).
Depending on how things go in Olympia I will definitely consider getting in touch with Shade.
Thanks so much.

Ya might let Aaron know about who you've seen in Tacoma, he's got some good insight on what appears to be a pretty reputable trainer.
Shade's great, and you're right Aaron, she's got lots of knowledge of suit work. Reiki is proof enough that maker training DOES work. He's a cool dog. Another thing I love about Shade is she's not only about the competition dogs. She used to come out to a rescue I managed (since closed down) and help us out if we had any severe behavior problems. I think that is very cool.
Good luck!

Olympia?
Is Mel Romero training again?
Who's the guy in Tacoma? Please tell me it isn't who I think it is, and he isn't charging that friggin' much for OB.

I'm not sure what your goals are with your dog, and I know you said not Tacoma, but before I got my dog, I was talking with (I believe her name was) Melissa with this group: http://www.k9northwest.com/club/aboutk9nw.html
I have a friend down here by me in Portland who works with PPDs had a decent review of her, I have not personally met her or her dogs, but I did have a rather lengthy phone conversation with her.
I decided to go with Schutzhund and found a club in Olympia that I like and is a good fit for me.
I hope you find what you are looking for

The guy in Tacoma is Ron Pace. He charges $985 for the 10 obedience lessons which are non-negotiable.
haven't found anyone named Mel Romero in the searches I've done.
The guy I'm going to see in Olympia is Les at Canine Training Concepts.
I know nothing about either of these folks other than what their websites have to say, so I'm just going for an evaluation with Les to see what I think. If anyone knows anything about either of these guys - good or bad - please let me know.
Thanks so much!
Dana

Hi Erica,
I didn't mean I didn't want to go to Tacoma. I have a problem going to this particular trainer in Tacoma with his non-negotiable 10 obedience lessons for $985 regardless of what training your dog has. I just think with help from others who have trained in this area that I could find a decent trainer that wasn't going to cost me that extra $$.
I'll check in to the link you gave me and maybe visit that trainer next if it's a good option for me.
Thanks!
