What do you consider excessive? Normally a dog eating kibble should drink about a 100ml/kg/24hrs, and puppies even more than that.
In order not to ask folks to measure intake, it's no more exact than "more water than you expect, enough to notice, more than he did on other kibbles."

When I had Logan on dry kibble, he drank way more water than any dog I had ever owned. I can't tell you amounts, but he would stand at the water bowl and drink steadily for maybe a full minute, several times daily.
This is probably not going to be helpful because it wasn't just one brand of kibble. I tried many brands over the course of a couple years, trying to resolve his skin and poop issues. Going backwards, these are the ones I remember: Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Bison, Solid Gold Beef and Barley, Merrick Wilderness, Eagle Pack Chicken and Rice, Canidae All Stages.
When I switched him to a homemade diet, to which I add a little water, maybe 1/4 cup, morning and night, the difference in his thirst is unbelievable. He hardly ever drinks water now unless he has been exercising hard.
I feed TOTW, alternating between the High Prairie (Buffalo), Wetlands (fowl), Sierra Mountain (Lamb), and Pacific Stream (fish)
Koenig drinks A LOT. More then any dog I've ever known. (up to 2L a day) but he's very high energy, and works a lot. (His BW is completely normal, by the way. I had a total body function done on him when I first got him because I was concerned about the amount he drank!)
Sara, on the other hand, is on the same diet. She barley drinks enough to stay hydrated.
What'cha thinking Connie? I know there has GOT to be a reason you asked... lol. Fill us in!
