Ok, I have no room to store the feed but found someone who can help with that.
I have gone thru book and on line reading, so I feel ready to go.
Harley will be the one going raw. I am fed up with the kebbles and him having lost weight without reason. He is healthy as per the vet just over worked and not on a good food for him.
So at the moment he is doing ok on Holistic Blend lamb and rice but he eat 5 cups, he is 64# (weight todat)He should get max 3 cups.
SO he is fed as if he was over 150#.
How much should I give him. 4% of present body weight, 4% of target weight, just plain more!
I have one friend who gives 2# to her 35# BC and an other who give 4# to her 90# canne Corso and 5# to her 80# but thin Canne Corso.
Dexter will have to wait, he is doing very well at the moment on his food.
Help! Thanks

I was thinking someone else would chime in on this one. Depending on the age of your dog and activity level, I would suggest starting an adult dog with approximately 3% of their ideal weight, given that you are looking at around 2lbs if 64 is the ideal weight. If your target weight is significantly more than 64lbs, I would start with 3% of that and then add to it based on body condition.
To give an example, I have a 25lb adult whippet who gets approximately .75lbs, a 35lb adult whippet who gets around a pound and a 50ish lb 6mo old malinois who gets 2-3 lbs.
I would suggest starting with just a little less so their systems can adjust and you can get an idea how much they will need. In my personal experience, one of the most common causes of diarrhea when changing to a raw diet is too much food. Once you know he is eating and digesting well you can add more until you get to the desired body look. The amount I feed changes based on if they are looking fat or skinny and changes throughout the year depending on the weather and how much activity they have had.
Hope that helps and it says essentially the same thing here: http://leerburg.com/feedingarawdiet.htm#howmuch

This is how I do it, couldn't tell you how much I feed them in weight, if they're skinny they get more, chunky they get less.

For an adult dog, 2% of ideal body weight, and adjust from there as time goes on based on the dog's body composition.

My female GSDs (weigh around 65 lbs and ages 4 and 8, almost 9), both who receive an average amount of exercise daily, eat just under 2% of their body weight. My pup who is almost 8 months old and weighs 67 lbs, eats about 3% of his body weight.

Just chiming in to concur with Aaron and Melissa. Mine also get 2% (or a little under) of thier body weight in food, per day.
A 64-pound dog, using that calculation, would get 20-21 ounces of raw food per day.
Start there, and adjust as necessary.

And you know to start with one ingredient (like peeled chicken backs) with smaller-than-they-will-be size meals for a couple meals, to watch the poop?

Oh, no, don't worry about weight. It's only a day or so. For example, if you see good poops now, you can add the next ingredient or up the present one to what you expect to feed him normally, then add the next ingredient the following day.
The important thing is to add the things like fat and extra MM and organs and canned fish gradually and check the poop so you don't have a case of diarrhea from sudden extra fat, organ meat, too much muscle meat at once, etc.
