OK, so on the lighter side of things
Wondering if anyone has taught their dog something using a silly command.
I taught Callie and JD to be quiet using "Zip it!". Very untraditional but they didn't respond to words like "Enough".
It usually makes people laugh, too

Enough is always enough.....period.
If my dogs aren't learning, I'm doing something wrong.

Yes, I'm learning now that I should have changed my strategy instead of changing my command. I'd already used it with my rottie for several years and just continued it with my Mal.

Changing commands is good if one screws up or bad luck happens along.
No sense in 'beating a dead horse' if a word tainted though!

Perhaps since I've recently started marker training with JD I could use this to return to "Enough"?

My dog knows "NOT HELPING!!!!" which is the take a few steps back and stop what you're doing/get out of my space command
I used to say it when he was a puppy and would "help" with things like laundry (curling up in the basket), get underfoot while I was carrying things, "talk" or wiggle when I was brushing him or doing other general grooming things, etc. He caught on pretty quickly. My friends think it's hilarious because he'll be doing something and I'll say "not helping" and he'll back off and look "hurt" that I don't want his help XD

To me, the word is not important; compliance with the command is.
Zip It is a command which they have learned means "stop what ever annoying behavior you are doing". What are you going to gain by going to another word when you have one that they understand and it works?
You could have used "foofoo" for the command and as long as they comply - it is all good.

That's funny!
When JD's getting to rambunctious for some reason in the house I tend to tell him "chill".

Good point. Best not to confuse the matter :-)

I'm not at all opposed to changing to another word if you have "corrupted" one... I began training "heel" but didn't do well and was not happy with how things were going. Found LB, read more, learned a bit more and changed to foos to retrain. So there IS a time to change commands for the same behavior, but not when they are doing fine on the word you chose. jmho.
