Some of you may remember that I did a photo shoot for a cancer victim on Wednesday. It was definitely one of the hardest things I've ever done, and I've been crying like a baby while editing the pictures. The shoot was very difficult because she was so incredibly weak and in pain that she couldn't get out of her wheelchair. She was also grimacing through many of the pictures so it's been a challenge to find some where she looks pleasant. Her daughter is 2 and it was absolutely heartbreaking to watch the two of them. Here are a few of the shots that are done. I shot over 500 so there are lots more but I hope to have around 50 to give her when all is said and done. http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab187/OliviaB444/m1b.jpg
It's the least I could do...I felt so helpless when I found out about the situation and the idea of that little girl losing her mom broke my heart. They have no money to buy pictures, so I felt like maybe having some images of her mom will help the little girl cope. The mom was put back in the hospital today and is going downhill very quickly. I'm thankful that we were able to get the shoot done in time.
How heartbreaking. What a beautiful gift you are giving this family. I'm sure it gives a great sense of comfort to this mother knowing that her daughter will have these photographs.
I'm thinking about offering a free photography service to people who have a loved one dying of a terminal illness. Photography isn't about the money to me....it's about giving people images that they can keep forever and I know that a lot of times, medical bills keep the family from being able to buy anything extra. It's definitely something I'm considering...
The one that hit me was of their two hands and the bunny... the little girl's hand so "full of life" and her mother's hand appeared so tired...
I'm not sure you yet grasp what a gift you have provided for this little girl. When she is a young woman questioning who her mother was, these photos will literally be priceless to her.
You may want to consider writing down your thoughts and providing them along with the photos; about how hard a shoot it was for you yet how important for you to do...
How very nice of you to do this. The compassion we are able to muster for those at the end of their lives, while so difficult for us, means more than we can comprehend to those on the receiving end.

I wish I lived close enough that I could help you with this venture. It would be an amazing thing to do.
Beautiful photos Olivia. I love the hands shot and the kissing shot. What a wonderful thing you are doing for both this mother and her little girl. I dabble in photography and a few years back a good friend and co-worker's husband fell off a ladder and was severely paralyzed. Those first days they did not know if he would make it and his son who is in the military flew in with his fiancee. They decided to get married at the hospital so that the father could be there. I shot the photos of the wedding and the bride and groom after the wedding. It is difficult to take shots in such an environment since you know how important they are to the parties.
