hi all i want to purchase a good dog nutrition book / DVD. Ed has a few options avaialable. i will only get confused if i buy a more than 1 title and they have conflicting information, hence i would prefer to get 1 title and stick with that info.
does anyone have any suggestions, i need to get both puppy and adult dog nutrition info.
i know this topic has been well discussed here but i would prefer the convenience of a book / DVD than trawling through the threads.
I have the book Joyce recommended and find it to be very useful and informative. The author does tend to push her own brand of supplements a little bit, but not in an offensive way. I would definitely recommend the book.

i have possibly the best cared for dog on the planet. i don't want to miss anything.
How much fish body oil (long-chain Omega 3s) do you give? Do you also give Vitamin E so the processing of the oil supplement doesn't deplete the E in the dog's system?
IMO, this (long-chain 3s from marine sources) is THE supplement.
Of course, some chronic conditions benefit from other supplements. But if we are talking of dogs in general, meaning healthy dogs as well as dogs with chronic conditions, there is virtually no modern western diet that supplies anything even close to the long-chain 3s a dog should get. If you do a search here using fish oil, you will find enormous detail, history, and explanation.
Omega 3 is THE supplement. Omega 3 EFA's are lacking in virtually any diet you can put together that isn't fully comprised of fresh, naturally pastured prey animals and omega rich fish.
Salmon oil or fish BODY oils are the best sources to supplement from. Stay away from fish LIVER oil, you don't need it.
Vitamin E supplements go side by side with fish body oils. Vitamin E is used in the body's processing of the omega 3 EFA's.
Other than those, if the dog is healthy, I'd say that's it. If the dog has a condition that could be helped by another supplement that is hard to get into the diet otherwise, then go for it.
Probiotics are another topic that could be discussed under supplements, but I know little about them. I'm sure someone could expound their benefits if you'd like.
