I gave mine elk antler chews, and they loved them--lasted a long time. Until one dog broke a tooth and I took them away. But honestly, even my vet said the tooth fracture was just one of those freak things. A dog could break a tooth on a frisbee. I'd say if your dog isn't an overly agressive chewer (the kind that tries to crush everything) they are a good long-lasting chew. Supervise your dog with it (like any chew toy) and take it away if it gets small enough to be a choke hazard.
My two females love them. The male not so much but will chew on it. I have about ten around here somewhere. They never broke a tooth yet and when they get small i take them away too.
Tash used to have one, she liked it but never really chewed on it. She mostly slung it around the house or buried it in the laundry basket.
I recently found a nylabone that I am pleased with. Its one of the "BIG dogs" ones and its shaped like a huge turkey drumstick. She loves it, and it seems to be lasting well. She has had it for a week now and just the very tip of it is worn. That is a long time for her to have anything.
I think that the antlers are a good choice if your dog likes them and is not a super determined chewer. They are pretty hard, but not in a brittle way like marrow bones.
While dogs can swallow, and develop an obstruction from, pretty much any toy, Nylabones are a particular concern because many of their toys don't show up on X-rays:
I would never give her a normal nylabone, but this one I feel pretty confident about. Its so big that I doubt that she could ever get a chunk off of it. Of all of their products it definitely seems to be the safest.
Also,I do check it everyday and only give it to her when I am around.
