The boys are all fine and healthy but I was just thinking the other day that I couldn’t take their temperatures even if I wanted to. Come to think of it, we couldn’t take ours either. We don’t have a thermometer in the house.
Had one a few years back but it was really old and didn’t look that good so I threw it out in a spring cleaning. Never did replace it and quite frankly, I can’t remember ever using it.
I tend to think these things come to light for a reason so I was going to purchase a couple - one for us and one for the pups. Does anyone have suggestions on good ones or things to look for?
I love the new digital ones (they might not be that new, come to think of it!). They are just so much easier for these 55 year old eyes to read and beep when they are "done". Unfortunately, I don't think the ones you can swipe across a child's forehead would work if simply swiped across the dog's, ummm... bum.
I just got 2 new Vick's thermometers because we all had the flu and when we went to the doctor I couldn't tell him if my son had really had a fever or not.
They are digital, but smaller and flexible and work really well.
Ok, how interesting is that. I had no idea these came with the digital technology. Automatic reading and beeping, sounds wonderful!
My only experience has been with the hard to read mercury in the not so friendly places. And a recent vet visit was a completely hands on approach, no thermometer needed.
So this swiping motion you speak of, sounds like a breeze, but maybe not available for pups though. What a shame, now that would be a product.
Vicks… sounds like a good brand Jennifer, thanks. We haven’t have colds in a few years. I think with all the spices in my terrible cooking, the nasty little bugs even know to go where the pickin’s are tastier. Gotta be an upside to everything.
So would you be able to use pretty much any human one for a dog or should I be looking at a vet’s office for a specialty type one? Do they even sell them there?
I have one of these I use it to fix cars but can bring it home and test the cats or dog or myself no contact so it would be great nervous pets that don't like there temp being taken, and there is nothing to clean.
"Where would you point it in order to get an accurate temp on the animal? "
At the vet clinic I worked at we used an infered red gun on healthy animals that just came in for vaccines. It was pretty good. We would point it at the inside of the ear or the belly of the dog. In the summer you could usually get an ear but the winter was harder you usually had to go for the belly.
Thank you Cassie and Kyle. Infrared it is. And I’ll only have to get one! I think hubby might enjoy this purchase too. I can just see him taking everyone’s temperature with a new fun gun like this.
