I just joined the forum after finding this site last week. I just ordered the "Power of Training Dogs with food" dvd. I have an 8 month old male Australian Shepherd. I've been working with him with a clicker, but am quickly realizing that to get the results I want I can't just wing it like I've been doing. I am exploring the site but would appreciate any advice on where to start my reading, and would be interested in reading about others training with their dogs. Any points in the right direction would be appreciated. I look forward to learning from you all. Thanks!
Welcome to the forum Jonathan! Have you had your dog since it was a young pup or have you recently gotten him?
Connie pointed you in the right direction; read all you can on marker training. If you have specific questions about how that works or if you think you might be doing something incorrectly, just let us know. You will love your Michael Ellis video and I bet you watch it over and over and over... I learn something new every time I watch it - or any of his vids.
Let us know what you are working on with your pup and where you need direction; that will make it much easier for us to give you the information which will be of help.
