Just got back from a looooong day at the vet for Sookie's ear crop surgery. I'm so suprised how fast she went right back to being herself! I was worried that she'd be so sore and groggy that I'd get a horrible guilt complex about the whole thing. Much to my amazement, she's doing puppy things- terrorizing the cats, playing with toys and chewing on her bully. Puppies are so resilient!
Here's a pic post-crop. Warning-- ears are only a couple hours out of surgery. So they are still oozing and kinda yucky. If blood makes you feel icky, then don't look.
A beautiful pup! You so rarely see a chocolate and rust.
I'm surprised the ears are not bandaged - are you not going to be taping them to stand upright?
The plan is to let them heal and then post if needed but they are standing well on their own already. The doc doesn't like to bandage or tape them right after surgery because they don't heal as quickly or cleanly.
This was also recommended to me here by Kristel Smart (i believe). From what I could see from pics, her dog's ears look great.
I didn't realize you could do it that way. I hope they stand up for you - the most stressful thing about the whole procedure, for my pup, was me fussing over her ear tapes constantly!
Do you have a "before" picture? I'd love to see it.
Here are mine, if you're interested. Mitzi has quite a long crop.
I've been massaging and rolling her ears daily to get them to stand in advance so hopefully we wouldn't have to post very much. Her mother's ears were natural but standing, and her father's were cropped but standing naturally beforehand.
OK i officially give up, Jessica why dont you just get a talking Barbie doll you can dress up, you mutilated your dog congratulations. try doing it to yourself next time, no sedative. i'm out
