Has anybody else gotten started yet?
This is my maiden voyage at vegetable gardening.
Got my soil test, tilled up a 200 sq. ft. area, tilled in 3 cubic yards of compost, and fertilized to adjust deficiencies in my soil test. All that is left preparation wise is lime.
We are going to try tomatoes, squash, and okra. The tomatoes are big boy hybrids, and super sweet 100 hybrids.
I'll be able to transplant my maters into the garden around tax day, so I started them on 2/13/11.
There are 15 big boy plants, and 10 SS 100's. I started so many, in hopes of being able to give some to people, and mainly because I'm afraid I will kill all but a plant or 2.
Had some minor issues, that you'll see in the pics, but *think* those are ironed out by finally learning how to feed and water them.

So, anybody gotten started? If not, still post your plans, and don't forget to take pics.

I don't grow many veggies, but for tomatoes. However, I do usually have an extensive herb and and flower (many edible) garden. Having just moved from Ontario to the Island, and then the Island to the mountains, my garden may be a wee bit lacking this year.
However, there is a massive community plot on my road (I live in an intentional community), which I plan to try and take full advantage of... if the snow ever stops! This is the corner of my road today. The community garden is right behind that house.

My gatden is also still under 2feet of snow
I go for classic stuff tomatoes, cucumbers, summer and winter squash, pepper hot and sweet, herbs, strawberries.
Last year I tryed some eggplant but that was a FAILED experience.
I don't start my plant any more. My house is way too small, the garden supplies the my house and my parents and some friend.
The garden is always too small for all the plants even as it keep getting bigger every year
Dexter has a thing for the oregano plant, he would sleep in it, hope Harley won't sleep in it but keep the rabbit out!

I can't wait to start my little gardens! This year I'm doing vegetables and strawberries on the back porch and flowers out front.
Probably still have at least another month or two before I can even begin to prepare them.
Right now even my house plants are suffering fom winter, all dried out from the ancient forced hot air heat in my apartment. I've lost four plants this winter.

Planning my first attempt this year as well. Can't wait for the weather to cooperate. So many projects hinging on it!!
Barbara, I'm envious of your neatly organized planter!

It's still a bit early here but assuming the weather cooperates I'll have a smallish garden this year.
I started the tomatoes and some pumpkins a few weeks ago and we just transfered them into their first expansion pot.
BTW since you're in the South my one piece of advice on the tomatoes is to not skimp on the support cages, the smaller ones just don't cut the mustard. The best ones I've ever seen were made from hog panels rolled into short circles.

Barbara, the square foot gardening looks really neat and tidy. Depending on my experiences this year, I may go that route next season.
I've heard of people using that soil mix with peat and vermiculite. I started my tomatoes in a soil less mix. Coir.
Melissa, I've been debating what I was going to use for supports. I've seen people that plant in rows, like what i'm doing, drive t-post next to each plant and weave a strong rope or twine from one pole to the next. They just keep going back and forth until they have made a lattice like weave for the tomatoes to grow up. You can keep adding rope as they grow taller.

I can't start my veggie seeds indoors until the first part of April. We can have frost until Mother's Day here in Denver. HOWEVER, I do a lot with native perennials in my flower garden and they are already planted in flats and under the snow for chilling.
I dig under all of my fall leaves into my vegetable garden to improve soil. Got to get to that soon, since I didn't do it last fall...
I am a pretty messy gardener- no neat rows and lots of co-mingling.
