I am always looking to add more variety to my dogs' diets.
What are the staples that you feed? (And cost?)

Tom turkey necks. $0.50 per lb.
Chicken backs. $0.75 per lb.
Custom butcher grind {organ, muscle and bone from beef and venison} $1.25 per lb.
Ziwi Peak commercial dog food, once or twice per week. $100 per bag {which lasts around 4 months per bag at the frequency we feed it.}

Chicken frames. Twenty bucks for a fifty pound box. I go through about a box per month.

Where do you get the whole frozen sardines, Tracey? I want to get that!
What a fantastic variety item, and with its tiny lil "Bs" (from RMBs) intact!

In addition to chicken frames and backs I feed Urban Carnivore Whole carcass patties. 4lb.s for $30. Pretty expensive but I figure I'm getting a lot of variety in my dogs diet not available elsewhere - lungs, eyeballs, brains etc.
And since we travel and go boating alot, I have her on some grainfree dehydrated foods (only ones available in Canada), small amounts that I alternate with each meal - Smack, NRG, and ZiwiPeak (all around $30 for 2lbs.). This way if we find ourselves somewhere without frezzer capability I can switch to all dehydrated.

Can I ask - those of you that feed whole fish, do the dogs smell "fishy" afterwards? Maybe just fish breath for a while?
I have a source coming up of free whole herring, but I hate the smell of fish!

I buy whole sardines by the case at a large seafood market. I'll sometimes by whole mackerels at this same place, but I prefer the sardines.
I would assume that most seafood specialty markets could order a case of sardines (50 pounds is the size I get) if they don't stock them. Mackerel and sardines are among the cheapest fish going. Only tilapia is cheaper, and the former are much more nutrient-dense.

I'm so happy with this http://leerburg.com/zeal.htm despite the costliness, using it the way I am (as a "side dish"). That is a list of variety that I'm happy to have in one dehydrated-raw food (wild white fish (Haddock, Whiting), sweet potatoes, eggs, organic coconut .... ).
I split a small box with a friend the first time, but I'm getting my own next time. I use it as kind of a gravy over one meal most days, really stretching it out.
I have one small senior who threw up on any more fish than a sardine perched on top until I got this stuff.
