i have athena, my 10 week old gsd on a raw diet. finally found a place where i can get quite a bit of necks, liver, heart, brain... got about 40-50lb for $37. anyway, she is being fed 10% her body weight currently. (21 lb+) trying to start a schedule of half lb.+ 4 times a day. this was her weight about a week ago so its probably over 25 by now. my question is how long until i lower how much i feed her...7%, 5% or lower of her body weight?
I found with my GSD pup that it was not really a question of percentages,it was more of a question as to how he looked.Fine to start at 10% but I found that I fed quite a bit under the accepted percentages.Another important point particularly if you are using marker training is the quantity of rewards offered.I weigh my rewards and they often add up to the equivalent of one meal spread over one day.for that I like to only use part of his diet as rewards but I do cook the steak/heart etc to make things a little more pleasant.Final point, some people like their pups quite chubby.
Good luck with Athena,
thanks...and ya im taking the training treats into consideration. experimenting with lots of stuff and got the little logs to try out yesterday. also really likes cheese. when she is sitting down her belly kinds looks plump, but standing her stomach dips in between the ribs and hips. im thinking im just gonna stick with about two pounds and see how she is doing.
