I'm away from home for the week. Something that rarely happens. At least rarely happens without having a dog along.
I left the dogs home with my folks/little sister. Kipp and Kenzi are happy with whoever feeds them and plays with them. So they don't really care. Missy on the other hand has been thrown for a loop. She's only eating every other day. Sigh. She does not do good without me and I think it bothers her more as she gets older.
I took her along to two out of state family wedding because I knew she'd be better with me than she would staying home and having a neighbor come over. My suspicions were confirmed when I left her home for the third one and had a neighbor come over and take care of the dogs. Missy refused to go outside for 2.5 days. But I thought she'd do fine this time because the only thing that has really changed is that I'm not around. Other than that she's at home with family that she knows/loves and the other routine is pretty normal. Besides her sporadic eating I guess she's doing OK. And since she really isn't a huge food dog, I'm not worried about her except for the fact I know she's not happy
So what does your dog do when you leave them? are they just fine? mopey? something else?

When I travel on business Shiva has been fine with my husband. But seriously she is pretty much with me 24/7 when I am working from the home office...if I have an appointment she goes to my husband's office (he has a solo practice here in town)...
We're bringing her with us to my son's wedding down south -I honestly couldn't see leaving this dog with anyone else so I get where you're coming from with Missy...
It was never my goal to have a sticky velcro dog...but sometimes these shelter guys bond deep..
I'm pretty sure I miss them more than they miss me. Hubby most likely spoils them rotten when I'm not around, but they (especially JD) seem really happy to see me when I come home.
On the occasion that we go out of town together they stay with a good friend. Callie loves it. I think she believes she's gone to "summer camp" and has a blast. JD, not so much. She raises Australian Shepherds and he's still a bit overwhelmed by them. He doesn't eat really well under those conditions, either.
