We are in Mexico with some friends and they have 6 dogs all of which are completely untrained. People here seem to think that they are un-trainable. They have a show GSD, fox-tarrier, chihuahua mix, afghan hound, border collie, and H57... I would like to work with the BC but he has been abused. The one in charge of the dogs says he is much better than he was several months ago.
What is the best way to get past this? How would you go about getting him out of his shell?

Get past what, exactly? What behavior are you seeing ("was abused" means almost nothing until we understand what you are seeing). What is his "shell"? Anxiety? Reactivity? Avoidance?
