you know that split second in time? where the world stops, you realize you need to slide your hand, If you don't you'll be sorry, if you do it too slow you'll be even more sorry..if you do it NOW maybe you'll get away with it.
all that goes through your head at that very moment..that split second..and you quickly jerk your hand back. too late.
somewhere between the world stopping and the word "now" you already ran out of time. and WHAMY!!!! you get bit..not only is there a tooth in your flesh..but you pulled back. Now you have a tooth mark and 2" slice..and the blood hasn't even started to drip out yet. It's all about timing.
My mental thoughts on my most recent shark bite from some rag work and my pup. Thanks Ace
there should be an instruction manual on how quickly dogs can move, at what age they increase their spead...and a whole other book on NOT jerking or slidding your hand at the very last second whens it's already too late. But i guess it's trial and error for my poor hands.

Oh no!
How deep is it? Has it stopped bleeding? Is it your dominant hand?
A pair of thin, well fitting gloves can really help prevent bites like that. I like work gloves like ironclad or mechanix that come from Lowes or Home Depot.
oh no no ..i'm touched that you all are so worried! but it was from a puppy..and those teeth are sharp. and it's not deep enough for stitches...but it was one of those ones that didn't bleed for about a min..then didn't stop for about 10 mins. it'll be okay..just another (not so girly) beauty mark oh an i have a pink pair of Gloves for gardening..putting them in the doggy toy box to use next time.
LOL @ Dave...yes i have a few of those too. STILL have a bruise on my thigh where he got a little to excited to see me..and even though i had a ball..i yet again...moved at the wrong moment and tim3
I'm sorry that you're hurt, but I can't stop laughing at that description! I've been there SOOOO many times! (Thinking, OH CRAP, This is gonna HURT!!!)

My gardening gloves wouldn't do the trick... I bought several pair of heavy duty working gloves from HD & Lowes, as already mentioned and never went out to play with beast without them.
However, if you routinely prune pyracantha and roses, maybe YOUR gardening gloves are up to "puppy teeth"!
i think my hubby has som welding gloves some where..but i think he would get upset at the idea of Ace coming near them. he tends to not let Ace close to anything of his while in bite mode. If only I had that luxury
And I wouldn't blame him - those are his gloves for welding, not dog training. You don't have to spend a ton - probably in the 8.00 range. Get PINK so your hubby won't want to get near your gloves either.
