I currently have a french bulldog, his name is Bastian and we have decided that we would like another one. I contacted Bastian's breeder via email and she does have puppies coming in May. She has one picture on her website of the dam, but it was taken at 10 months old, I asked her if she had a current picture of her and she said that was the only one, how can I ask her to send me a current picture, but still be polite about it?
To keep my options open I did contact Bastian's breeders friend, she also breeds/shows frenchies. She had a breeding done and she told me to contact her in 3 weeks and she should know by then if the breeding took. I contacted her this past Tuesday, which was 3 weeks since I originally spoke with her and I haven't heard anything back from her, so I re-sent the email just in case she didn't get it. My question is, where do I go from here, should I go ahead and call her? Her phone numbers are posted on her website. Good Frenchie breeders are few and far between, so I get anxious because I don't want to miss out, but don't want to be a pest to the breeder either.
Will this new dog be the third dog you were considering adding to your family? Do you still have the Rottie?
In regard to a breeder not returning emails, I'd give them a few days - they could be out of town or at a show. If I didn't hear from them after a few days I'd leave a voice message. If they didn't return that I'd stop right there since to me, that indicates they aren't the professional I want to do business with. It takes less than two minutes to answer an email, and responding to a potential client's contact is an important part of doing business. If they won't make time for it before they get your money, you can imagine how responsive they might be if you have a problem with your pup and the check has already cleared...
I'm not sure how asking for a current photo of the dam for a potential new puppy could be construed as rude. What is wrong with a friendly "I'd love to see how beautiful she is at her current age! Can you please post or send me a new photo?" If the breeder don't understand the desire on your part to see the conformation, coloring, health, etc... of their bitch, I would take that as excellent information for you to have before buying another one of their dogs. JMHO.
The French Bulldog Club of America also has a breeder's directory on the above site of breeders who have signed the club's code of ethics. I'd start there.
