I'd love to be able to take videos of the farm, my dog. Hubby has an expensive camera that is "his", never charged, I can't work it , lots of little icons, incomprehensible.
What camera would you guys recommend for a non-gadget literate old person?
Going to Best Buy I feel like a nursing home patient let out for the day.....
Betty, I really like my flip vido camera. It fits in my pocket and can upload really easy onto the computer. http://store.theflip.com/en-us/?gclid=CLjHtMKAiKgCFQm8KgodZT5MlQ It is great for taking short videos and has some fun editing options online. Minimal buttons to push as well I've captured some fun moments due to it's small size as I can take it everywhere.
I would find one that doesn't require some proprietary software to get them off the camera and onto the computer.
Tell them you are wanting to upload video to the internet easily, as well.
The videos and pictures aren't as good as a *real* camera, but I love my iphone for ease of uploading them to the internet. And I always have it in my pocket.
The Flip is wonderful. I can even manipulate it one handed in the turret so I could get some footage of Afghanistan. It also films in HD so the picture is excellent. To start recording you just push the power button and then the big red button. Press the red button again to stop recording. Couldn't be simpler.
It uploads easy- the connector stick is right on the camera, just plug it in and upload. This is coming from Ms. Computer Illiterate ( if you cant tell) I don't even know the name of the plug in thingy. It looks like a flash drive connected to the camera.
I have a Canon HCF20. It records directly to SDHC memory chip (the size commonly used in pocket digital cameras). It records in HD or in less resolution modes. (lesser resolution means more recording time). It can also take still photographs. The current models run $4 - 500.
The thing I **really** like about it is that is has an 'EASY' button that picks some appropriate presets so you don't have to fiddle with it. The menus and options are still there if you feel the urge to mess around.
