The past week my dogs BMs have not been entirely normal. Shes been mildly constipated on and off, and a little loose here and there. More normal BMs than not, but still not the average for her.
I didnt really think anything of it because she seemed normal and it wasnt anything extreme. We have a vet visit scheduled for an exam and I figured I would mention it then.
Yesterday her stools were loose, and by last night they were liquid.
This morning more liquid and she was straining, and then she vomited. When i got her back inside she laid down in the hallway. It is not normal for her to lay down at all without being told to. So I called the vet immediately and he got her in within an hour.
He gave her sub q fluids, an injection of antibiotics and he is running a full blood panel. He felt her abdomen and told me everything feels fine, but to watch her. Normal protocol of fasting for 24 hours followed by slow introduction of the bland diet.
Then he mentioned that he is seeing a lot of gastro problems and he suspects that there may be another food spoilage or contamination problem.
I tried raw feeding for a while, but my dog is a freakazoid and refuses to eat chicken. Raw feeding just wasnt realistic for me without some poultry because of the cost.
That's a good quality dog food, and there's lots of preservatives in kibble, so I doubt anything is wrong with it.
Could she have gotten off somewhere and eaten a dead mouse or snake or something? Her body will be able to handle decaying animal matter, but since she's not used to raw food and the bacteria that is in it, it very likely would make her sick for while.
I would fast her for a day, and make sure she keeps drinking water.

I'm hoping it isn't the kibble and it probably isn't, but preservatives don't rule out the possiblility of a problem; there have been numerous recalls over the years due to salmonella, etc...
ETA: Keep us posted Lauren. Got all the paws crossed.
deleted the other post the information was not what I thought it might be.
Hopefully it will be OK. She hasnt gotten a run today and shes really mellow. Its not like her at all.
I just took her for a short walk and she didnt have any diarrhea, so that is an improvement. She hasn't vomited since the first time this morning, but the vet did give her an anti nausea medication while we were there.
The vet told me that the sub q fluids should be sufficient hydration, and to not give her any water until tonight to make sure her gut is totaly settled.
