I had an exciting afternoon. Ripley started vomiting at about 4 o'clock and hadn't stopped trying to bring up stomach contents 4 hours later.
I took him to the E vet. They took xrays, found nothing, threw around some theories, wanted to ultrasound. I asked if they could just "manage" him for the evening and I'd take him to our vet in the morning. (E vet hosp is notorious for asking to do test after test after test, and never really diagnosing.)
They gave him some fluids and anti-nausea meds and let me take him home. He's snoring in his bed now.
I decided to take him to the vet when he stopped looking at me, stopped communicating with me. He was in his own world of pain.
He spent some time in a creek today, so speculations are that he ate a spider or licked a frog. (Facebook speculations---not from the vets.) I think it's more likely that something in the water made him sick.
I'm looking forward to a quiet night and no further symptoms. Cross your fingers for us, please.
Connie, he's peeing. He pooped normally before he was sick, and he's normally just a one a day kind of guy.
Vets suggested pedialyte, and a friend is out picking some up for us. Think baited water is better? It would certainly be easier to get him to drink it.
Just read this now, Meredith sorry to hear Ripley is ill, but it sure sounds like he is resting nicely now.
If he won't drink the pedialyte by itself, you can add it to boiled chicken water and that usually gets a dog enticed.
Every time I have had a sick dog, they lap that up eagerly.
Mr. Puker had a good night. No more vomiting and he drank his baited water both times I made him get up and take some. Bladder and kidneys are obviously working well. Waiting for our vet to call me back this morning to find out if he needs to be seen.
I think his "abs" are sore as he's doing more groaning than ususal, but he was more than ready to chase his nemesis cat this morning if I would have allowed it.
