KNPV stands for the Koninklijke Nederlandse Politiehond Vereniging (Royal Dutch Police Dog Association) and was developed as an organization tool for forming a certification standard for police and security guard dogs. KNPV is instrumental in providing and maintaining a high quality of working dogs through their certification tests.

On the 24th there will be a mock KNPV trial consisting of the PH1 exercises. The Politie Hond 1 (PH1) is the most common of the certificates, and therefore the excercises at our mock trial will be following those rules. The PH1 will consist of basic obedience, control, and agility, as well as some more advanced exercises in apprehension and searching. There will be a brief discussion of the exercises on this day.

The seminar will follow after the trial on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday topics will include developing a training program; working with young dogs and puppies; as well as breeding and selection for working dogs. Sunday's topics will range from the different KNPV exercises to handler and decoy techniques. These are a general guideline of topics; we will do our best to accommodate the participant's wishes on topics.

Dick and Selena van Leeuwen have over 50 years of experience combined in working dogs. Dick began training and titling dogs in Schutzhund as a teenager and then progressed to certifying dogs in the KNPV program. He was a police K9 handler for 20 years, and an instructor at the police region Flevoland for 25 years. Selena grew up in a working dog home where her father and mother bred FCI Malinois and competed in IPO and KNPV, with several championship wins. Through their love of working dogs they have established a successful breeding program that is consistently producing dogs that excel in police work and the KNPV, as well as other dog sports. They continue to certify their dogs in the KNPV program.

There will be a limited number of dog/handler teams for the seminar; spectators are welcome to come but the majority of the focus will be on the working teams. Private training sessions will also be available on a very limited basis. Deposits will be required for both the mock trial and seminar as well as the private training sessions.

Details on the seminar specifics such as price, location, etc will be announced in the coming weeks.

For those who are serious about wanting to come (especially in the working spots) we are taking a list of interested names now and adding them to an email list.

I'm really excited about it, as it's going to be great time and hopefully everyone can learn and see something new!

maybe i am blind, but all i could see is "this fall", no mention of a month, but the only sat that falls on the 24th would be in sept. is this correct???? are there plenty of open spots for those who just want to watch?
