My 2 year old Boerboel girl has a watery eye on and off, and apart from the inevitable tear stains, doesn't appear to bother her very much, i.e. no discharge, redness, etc.
This morning when I got them all up it was quite red and watery, and when she came back in from the garden she started rubbing her face on the carpet, she wasn't yelping or grumbling, and again, no discharge, though she must have been nagging at it in the night as it was slightly closed.
Both her parents were screened and found to be entropian clear, and her brother and half brother who I also have, have never had any problems with their eyes, plus I have spoken to her breeder, (who I am constantly in touch with anyway) and none of the owners of the litter sibs have reported and eye problems.
I am taking her to the vet tonight to get it checked out, but was wondering if Entropian can occur in a pup whose parents have been declared free; it could be seasonal I guess?? any other ideas??
Yeah this could be relevant, also the new crops are up over the fields where we walk and the oil seed rape is out, I don't let them run through it, but I have read somewhere that dogs can get totally disoreintated with it as the scent is so overpowering, and creates huge problems in people!
Am wondering if there are ony homeopathic remedies that might help??
Chula has allergy-related eye issues that are compounded by cherry eye that has been surgically corrected. When her eyes have a discharge, in addition to wiping her down I also add bee pollen to her food. It does seem to help somewhat. I also eat it in small quantities to help with my seasonal allergies.
You can buy it in a health food store if you want to try it...
(start with a small amount (like 1/4 tsp) and build up...it can cause loose stools)

You can also rinse the dog's eyes with sterile saline solution--the same stuff you'd rinse contact lenses with. Hold the eye open, squirt to irrigate the eye, wipe crud with paper towel. I have to do this to Luca every now and then if he gets a goopy eye. He doesn't mind this routine at all. But I suppose like any grooming/fooling with body part, you may have to work on it with treats.
Thanks for that - will ask my brother-in-law if he has that remedy as he is a homeopath, if it gives her some relief and protection I will def give it a go.
I can pick that up from the chemist, prob cheaper than what the vet will try and sell me tonight! She doesn't mind me fiddling with her ears and eyes, unlike her sib so that will make administering it easier, will give her a wee treat anyway though because she looked so sorry for herself this morning, almost pouting!
