Ok we we got him home and I decided to let him play in our front yard. He was a little nervous I think.
Should we be picking him up or leading him on his leash? He will stand his ground if we try to get him to go with us. My wife was sorta half pulling him to walk I don't want us to do that and start him out wrong.
I left to get dog food and he pooped in his kennel and got poo on his coat which my wife washed off with a rag and then cleaned his paws, butt and the kennel while I was out.
I had thought I took him out long enough ie 15 minutes. How much water should I give this pup tonight? When we got home I gave him maybe half a cup or a little less.
I bought wellness dog food large breed puppy power.
Nobody here can tell you how much to feed the dog. We have no idea how big he is, or what he's been eating. The breeder should have filled you in on that, and you should call him and ask. I certainly hope you bought the brand of food that he is used to, or that the breeder gave you enough of a supply for a slow switch over, or you WILL have diarrhea on your hands.
He is going to resist the leash, because that's what comes naturally, and he's likely not been trained at all. Is he 5 months old now? Was the breeder crate training him at all, or were they living in runs?
no he didnt great!!! We ARE going to have diarrhea it looks like
We were so happy to get him we asked about training questions. We were going to take food home with us but we all got to talking and everyone completely forgot!
Uh, did I miss something? Who is Nick Logan? I thought your name was John Cavan or Caven. That's what all your previous posts were under. Now, I see all your previous posts have been changed to the name of Nick Logan. I'm confused, especially since there is a policy on this board that members have to use their real names.
I'd offer as much water as he wants....unless you're talking about before bed? For puppies I pick up water 2 hours before bed with a final pee right before...but if he's had no water all day....and you will be looking at diarrhea...you may want to let him have some water and just let him out during the night (if he's not crate trained you'll probably not be sleeping anyway....)
I'd call the breeder first thing tommorrow and ask what food he's on, get that...and transition him over...
This is a 5 month old Malinois? 10lbs! Um...you may want to check that....My dog was a little over 15lbs at 5 months and was horribly underweight and he isn't a "large breed"
