There's been a lot of discussion on the board recently about the Belgian Malinois and how it is a breed not suited to just anybody. I have owned Dobermans for a very long time, but I sometimes wonder what other breeds might be suited to me and my lifestyle.
There are lots of "choose your breed" sites out there, but I like this one because it asks reasonably pertinent questions and then gives you dozens of results, ranked according to percentage match.
My number one, at 100 percent was the Canaan Dog. Now that was a surprise! I've heard of them but don't know much about them. I don't think they are real common in the US. Second place at 99 percent was the Pointer (!), and then I had a five-way tie for third place, at 98 percent: Doberman (thankfully, lol), Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Flat-Coated Retriever, Curly-Coated Retriver, and Gordon Setter. The Malinois was down the list but still a 95 percent match!?!?
I know this is not scientific but thought some of you might find it fun.
I got the Australian Shepherd as my #1. LOL...in all honesty, I HATE them! ALong with the Sharpei (not on my list) and Airedale (on my list)...just personal preference, not trying to offend anyone.
Had all three varieties of Belgian shepherds, followed by the GSD at 95%.
2 at 98% (akita, dobe) and 2 @ 97% (gsd, borzoi). Apparently no dog matches my preference at a 100%. Although 27 dog breeds are a suited match per that site.
I do wish more people (selling and buying) put a lot more time into the decision, undecided if these tools are helpful or hurtful. It was fun checking out the results but it was stressful awaiting the decision if the dogs I have now would at least make it to the 'suggested list'.
somehow those questions were not quite right for me my number one was a duck toller but i got shepherd a mal was 97% and not even one molloser definatly not a sporting breed enthusiast and i got way to many of those i really dont do well with those little quizes
ACD is on my list as well Ingrid. I'm not ready for another dog yet but I may be sending you a message in a year or so for some good breeders...I love Frost!
