I think some unchewed chicken back has caused a problem, he has had blood, i would say quite a bit of it in his stool. middle of the night Friday (going into Sat morning) he had to go outside in the middle of night because he had diarrhea & it had blood in it & he had been like through Saturday.
I did not give him any bone of any kind since this & he still has blood in his stool.
I've had blood in his stool before, i'm assuming from unchewed smaller pc's of bone & after a day or two it will get back to normal, i just stop giving him the backs for a while & give chicken necks instead.
This time seems like more blood & it's still there as of this morning, it's not diarrhea any longer but is mooshy due to no bone & his gastric upset i'm sure he has.
anyone else have problems w/ a dog that does not chew the greatets & had blood in the stool periodically? This has probably happened 3-4 times now.
Not a chewing problem. A dog's digestive system can handle chunks of bone. Especially chicken backs. Those are the easiest of the easiest for a dog to digest.
You need to let a vet see him.
It could be any number of things. I would almost bet the house that it has NOTHING to do with chewing.
Dogs dentition is not like ours. They do not grind their food up into a mush and THEN swallow. They process the food to a size that will fit down their throat and THEN swallow.
Ditto to Tracy and Michael. A single occasion of a little bit of blood in the stool is one thing, but you describe it as "quite a bit of blood" and it has been going on since late Friday night. I'd be at the vet now.
