for the first time, I found a couple of fleas on my dog Cody. He has been seriously ill before, doing ok now, but do not want to use anything with harsh chemicals, or any chemicals if I can help it. Does anyone know of a all natural product that is not toxic that kills fleas? thanks sharon
I have HEARD only that if you put apple cider vinegar in the water(2-3 Tablespoons per gallon) it will repel flees and ticks. Don't know if there is truth to this.
IMO there is no effective natural flea product.
Soap and water will kill fleas, but there is no residual.
A flea can live for 2 YEARS without a blood meal, in carpet, furniture, dogs bedding, under bushes. Only go on the dog to feed.
IME pyrethrin and permethrin, marketed as "natural extract" from chrysanthemums, have more toxic side effects than ivermectins.
I'd start by throwing out all dog bedding/small rugs. Vacuum like a mad woman.
Give all three dogs a bath.
If the fleas come back, get some Frontline. Use the smallest possible effective dose (if dog weighs 25 lbs use the toy dog size 11-22lbs) and hope for the best.)

I tried the "natural" route too (after initially denying that my dogs could possibly have fleas.) Citrusy shampoo, DE and Neem powder. Cedar oil. Didn't work. One dose of Advantix and that was that. I'll never again let my dogs go unprotected.
