My lovely partner of many years tried to do me a favor today by buying a bag of dog food because I just used up the last scoop this morning.
He nearly got it right - but he got the "lamb" formula instead of the "chicken" we normally feed. These dogs don't have any real food issues, or allergies that we are aware of...but we also are totally out of the usual food so we can't exactly mix it in slowly.
Am I being overly cautious to think we need to go back to the store and get the chicken formula they've been eating? The male type thinks we should just go with it.
hi
Am no expert but i would have thought it was ok to feed the lamb formula. My dog has allergies and i feed him kibble,he has allways been fine with a change from chicken to lamb without mixing it together.

I switch protein sources (and brands, too) after each bag is finished. But, I always buy a grain-free kibble with a similar protein content.
My dog has never had any problems switching from one protein source to another.
The only way you'll know it to try it...
I do the same Lynne! It varies from bag to bag. I like to keep my work (shop I buy food at) guessing on which I'll buy next time. They get incredibly frustrated, never knowing what I'll want, so what to stock more of, for the next bag. Hahah.

Just as I provide protein variety in the raw diet, I would do so in a kibble diet.
Of course, no matter what kind of diet we give, we need to reserve proteins that are easily purchased (against the possible future need for an elimination diet). Reserved proteins should never be given in any amount or form, so they can't be something like chicken or lamb or beef or anything else that's snuck into so many commercial treats and even tooth-care products and oral meds.
