My dogs video thread. Thought I'd just start one for all the video I'm going to take. Here's my newest one. He waited till I counted to 20 in my head to come out.
Looking good Nick! I would put some more positive reinforcements in if it was me. When Gambit comes out and sits I would mark it with a good sit and a treat (if his tummy allows him to have treats now) and I would again say good platz and reward immediately when he does it.
I think he would have been more likely to have maintained that first down if you had given him praise and/or treat reward when he initially downed.
He is still a puppy so I would be working on eagerness to respond correctly and wanting to please you and let duration of maintaining a position come with maturity.
Here is a video of Frost as a puppy and my teaching her the down etc to see what I mean about rewards:
yeah I normally do reward but I'd just fed him. Thanks for the video back though
Well than I would not train him right after feeding him ;-)
And/or feed him as PART of your training. The more the pup is rewarded at this age for complying with your requests, the more willing he becomes to perform as directed. If sometimes he is and sometimes he isn't... well, you get the idea. He is coming along well Nick.
And showing that training can happpen at any time.
Love that focus & enthusiasm!
She is a fun girl. She just got back from KY yesterday after being bred last week. Hopefully I will have several fun little pups running around in a few months :-)
