Our screened porch which is the length of the house has been repaired. 2 out of 3 doors needed fixing. Dogs......
Lots of screen replaced. Some dog, some not.
Heavy metal door to kennel replaced. Of course this was a special door, not one you could buy anywhere. Dogs....
Front couple of acres is now officially fenced in. Most of my gardening is in the front so it will be nice to have a dog with me when I'm weeding.
Really nice to move my dogs in and out of a vehicle without having to put a leash on them because of stray/loose/neighbors dogs..............
Next week the window in the whelping room becomes a door. When we have a litter we have a 10 x 5 portable kennel I can put right there. The door will be pretty darn close to my puppy pens and I may fence all the way to one, I'm not sure yet.
It will so nice when mom is in labor having a very contained area to walk her in. As it is now, she is on a leash and I follow with flashlight and a towel. A few less mad dashes thru the house with mom the first couple of days after delivering sounds pretty darn good too! House breaking pups will be easier then ever and I can cover the top of the kennel to protect them from the hawks that do literally stalk my pups.
Not to mention general puppy wear and tear on the house.
Next major project is privacy fencing along the fence line that I share with a rental unit. They placed the mobile right at the set back line and always seem to rent to people with dogs. The rental agent was out a couple of days ago and I told him that if the owner would kick in a few bucks for it, we could put the fence up faster and his unit would probably be rented a lot faster . Who knows I may get lucky. But that fence will stop a lot of barking and is about the only area I have left for potential fence fighting. It is typically rented to young families and our perimeter fence is livestock fence, I live in fear of a kid jumping over to get a ball or sticking a hand thru it or something.
Then last but not least maybe next year we can start fencing in the back 5 acres.
It's great to do projects that make life easier all year. Fence is always great! - I live with stuff wrecked, once it's fixed I wonder, "why did I put up with that for SO long?"
Always nice to have stuff fixed that makes things easier - you always wonder why you didn't do it sooner after it is done!
Building a new gate for the main dogyard and finishing another kennel run, put a flagstone floor in a kennel for the geriatric girl and making a dedicated outdoor grooming station....

You and I both need to get some pictures Lynn!
We have the basics down now so will be able to concentrate on things that just plain make life easier. Amazing how much of a difference a walk thru gate can make at the right place.
If we have start getting some regular rain, I have a lot more trees and bushes I want to plant. Our property was planted in pine and harvested before we bought it so it was pretty bare.
From Dr. Betty: "why did I put up with that for SO long?"
I need to put that on a t-shirt!
Congrats, Betty. Sounds like you've been working hard. It's always a great feeling to get a major project done around the house or property. And ditto on the "Why did I put up with that for so long."
Around here, fencing is a seemingly ongoing project. For a few years now we've been fencing and re-fencing, replacing old stuff, expanding the dog yard, replacing horse pasture fence, replacing perimeter fence. It's a work in progress, but I just love it every time a new section gets finished.

I was talking to one of my neighbors (well about 8 miles down the road LOL) that has a donkey farm and raises their own hay. I forgot how many 100's of acres she has.
Said something about how nice we got a couple of inches of rain and I have seen eyes roll as furious as hers. She said with the wind they had to remove 64 trees off their fences and she will be cutting them up for the rest of the summer.
This woman is a great grand mother..... Made me feel kind of lazy.
Just as a funny she also has 4 or 5 zebras. She had to move them to her back pasture because people were driving down the road and would slam on their breaks when they saw a zebra in with all the donkeys.
And of course they wouldn't look to see if someone was behind them.....
