I have had to retain one of my puppies due to a medical condition and she seems to have addopeted all her mommies bad habits... every time you go near her she pees on the floor with her tail between her legs she doesnt use the puppy pads that much anymore but goes on the floor instead, she will litterly run in from outside and pee on the floor and she eats every piece of poo she can find. Shes 4 months old and i cant take her on a leash yet cause when i try she jsut screams like im trying to kill her. i dont yell at her and i dont punish her for peeing in the house and i try and give her treets for peeing outside but this doesnt seem to be helping. I dont know what to do... ive even bought electronic trainers so that i dont have to use my voice but it doesnt work, dog whistels dont help either.. ive been consistant with sounds being the "no" sound. I just dont know what to do anymore. I crate them all at night but now when i take them out in the morning mom and puppie both roll over and pee when i open the door. I can't even get them OUT of the crate. What can i DO ?
You've trained them to use pee pads in the house, correct? To me, this just trains the dogs that peeing in the house is what they are SUPPOSED to do.
There should be lots of threads (in the search function) on "submissive peeing" but I would try backing up to the kennel so that you are not facing them at all. Don't speak, don't look at them don't do anything but open the kennel door and walk to the outside door. NO talking or looking at the dogs - literally, try to slowly back up to the crate. If you can't do that, walk forward quietly and confidently but without looking at the dogs and no talking.
Not teaching a dog to walk on leash because she screams when you do so is teaching her that screaming stops her from having to wear a leash.
Without meaning to, you have trained your dogs to pee in the house and to scream to keep the leash off.
Can you just attach the leash to the puppy's collar in the house and let her drag it around (with supervision of course)? Gradually she will get used to it just like she got used to the collar. Or is she not wearing a collar? That would be my first step.
