Beautiful dog!! Sad that he would be condemned for doing what a dog with a healthy prey drive does.
He killed a 17 year old outdoor cat, so they want him to die too.. 2 deaths don't make a right.
I hope they find a wonderful home for him.

Just wanted to add that I clicked on the rescue's "Animal" page and the first highlighted dog is an 11 year old GSD named Kelly, currently with Faith Rescue. Weird...
WTF? What the heck is the law? Perhaps if Arco had tracked the cat to his home; broke in tied up the owners and then took out the cat; I would deem him dangerous but....he's 5 years old and this is a first offense....it seems WAY TOO severe!
I'm surprised a rescue hasn't picked him up yet. I wonder what the liability is. His owners do not want to take the risk...not that I can blame them but if the same situation exists for anyone who adopts him, I don't see a good outcome....how sad.
I am surprised by this and have to wonder if perhaps the cat was not the first casualty of the dog. I had a similar case that involving a GSDx several years ago.
I have learned from my experience with the media that rarely is the whole story told on these cases. Sometimes because the truth isn't sensational enough, sometimes because the media did not do enough fact checking, and sometimes because law enforcement is unable to respond appropriately due to privacy issues and confidential criminal justice information.
Not saying that is the case here, just another outlook.
Please do Barbara. I can not believe that that dog is at risk.
It is too early to get too excited, but I forwarded the info to the Director of Dream Catchers (therapeutic riding center where I volunteer). She immediately picked up the phone and called one of the ferriers who service our herd. His wife is BIG into Shepherds - she trains and shows in North Carolina. His comment... "I'll call on the dog. He sounds great and what is one more GSD when you have five?" These are not kennel dogs - they are their family.
Keep your fingers crossed, but we sadly know how these situations don't always pan out as they should. At least there is a bit of hope this AM.

I wondered that too and for the heck of it looked up my county regs. I was surprised to find that technically the way it is written my dogs could be deemed vicious by the killing of a cat. Maybe they have a lot of leeway in it because of livestock?
I know our current county animal control officer and while I am confident she would not pursue anything like that, she is very down to earth, it is disturbing that she could.
Part of me really hopes that there is more to the story on a general basis, this kind of precedent would not bode well for any of our dogs.
