What an interesting article, particularly the “psychological shot” theory and how almost any caliber will perform admirably (like that word).
Being raised as an only girl with three brothers and for just as long, a husband with a family of boys, my personal protection has always been instilled in me.
At first hubby would test me ALL the time. He’d move firearms so I better be damn sure I knew where an alternate one was. He asked me one day, so… an intruder is in the house, you’ve got a gun, where are you aiming? He’d set it up so realistically that my first instinct was to go for the leg, to “incapacitate” them.
He said absolutely not – you feel threatened enough to actually pull that trigger, you go for a gut (torso) shot. The largest area that you know you’re not going to miss and you don’t stop firing until they’re not moving – well he said breathing but not to go up to check. Just empty the gun on them.
Also, hubby has the Mossberg version of the Remington Defender that he’s put a pistol grip on. I fired that thing once and my wrist has never been same since.
Be careful ladies, sometimes bigger is simply not better.
Good Article, have been involved in a few shootings myself and worked a lot more. It doesn't matter what size you are shooting it comes down to shot placement and staying alive long enough for the other person to bleed out.
