I think that self soothing behaviors can take the life of any person who feels the desire to use them. The difference? She could easily afford and obtain them. It fits right in with the spoiled star theory though. Chances are, if she were depressed and poor she couldn't have afforded to buy into the habit to begin with. I agree that there are many more worthy causes to grieve over though. My state has the poorest counties in the nation where babies are dying at 3rd world country rates. Nobody is grieving for those lost souls. Highest teen suicide rate in the nation, yet nothing is done.

It really is a disease, you know -- a disease that accompanies a personality, probably genetic, at least the tendency.
