I loved her voice. Ironically she reminded me of Janis.
Me too. JJ is one of my all time favorites. It's not difficult to see how the pressure combined with the power of being famous can be such a deadly duo, but so sad. So much they will never do...

Janice happened to be a personal favorite of mine. I saw her in concert, she was wacked, but incredible. Unfortunately, like Ms Winehouse, and other, Cobane, Presley, Hendrix, she's just another dead druggie.

Any behavior that is reinforced is more likely to occur again.
I just don't understand the self-destructive nature of these "stars".
They want for *nothing*, the world is their oyster, and it just isn't enough.
Call me heartless, but there are so many suffering people in this world who tonight will go to bed hungry, and this spoiled "star" kill herself through stupid excess.
I don't think that it's heartless. I think that self soothing behaviors can take the life of any person who feels the desire to use them. The difference? She could easily afford and obtain them. It fits right in with the spoiled star theory though. Chances are, if she were depressed and poor she couldn't have afforded to buy into the habit to begin with. I agree that there are many more worthy causes to grieve over though. My state has the poorest counties in the nation where babies are dying at 3rd world country rates. Nobody is grieving for those lost souls. Highest teen suicide rate in the nation, yet nothing is done.
Maybe you have to have a family member who is an alcoholic/drug addict to feel compassion. It really is a disease, you know -- a disease that accompanies a personality, probably genetic, at least the tendency.
I feel compassion for the parents who likely did all they could think of to turn it around, and lost her anyway.
