I didn't know where to put this. It's about dog traing, so here it is.
I have had the leerburg remote collar training dvd for a long time and I like that video just fine. I haven't used the collar much at all. I plan on using it more as we go along. I want to use it correctly, so I have put it aside for the most part.
I would like to be able to use the new Michael Ellis remote collar training video, but since we can only stream it and not buy it, I have a concern. Like most everyone who has verizon internet, I have a data limit. They told me that if I try to stream movies from netflix then I will go over, way over. And that will be very expensive.
Will that happen trying to stream videos from here also? If so, I guess that would mean that I cannot use them, unfortunately. Especially if I want to watch them repeatedly during the rental period. it would just make them cost prohibitive to have to pay overages or raise my limits in order to be able to watch them.
After reading the descriptions of the chapters, though, I find myself concerned that I have only a small portion of the knowledge I will need in order to do this training right. The last couple lines that describe chapter three put a chill in me too, talking about doing things that will make correcting with the prong or remote obsolete options. What are those things?
Help?

Are there certain hours of the day in which you can stream videos without penalty? We used to have a service which had "free" hours in the early, early AM.
I am a proponet of an ecollar used correctly - but the last thing you want to do is use one incorrectly. Until you are 110% confident in your ability, don't go there... jmh advice.
The cost of one more video would far outweigh any potential harm done. Save your pennies or have a garage sale, as do I, when I want to splurge on an item not in the budget.

Barbara,
Unless I am reading the information wrong, 2 ME videos (remote collar and foundation of protection work) are not available on DVD.

You are right, if it was buying the video, i would do it in a minute, I already have a small library of leerburg videos. We don't get any free time unfortunately.

My bad - I assumed they were. What a shame! In this case, if I could not watch them on my own computer, I'd ask around and see if a friend or coworker's server was different than mine and would allow me to view them on their computer. Unfortunately, not having the ability to view them a few times, gathering new info each time, would be a detriment, but better than nothing! Pause... take notes, etc...

I would probably also go to such lengths!
But also, I emailed Ed when I saw the O.P., and I learned that LB's dedicated download program will have a new version in the near future that will determine a customer's download capabilities and adjust the download speed accordingly.
OTOH, I also learned that few people are affected by the download speed as it is.
So, since I have very little knowledge of this stuff (VERY little) and it's Friday night, I would like to ask Julie to give me a little time to either understand better or to ask Ed or Ed's IT guy Ryan to advise.
And I will PM you, Julie
I'm with Barbara on the importance of thoroughly understanding how to use the e-collar before doing anything with it.
Anyway, stay tuned .....

Yes, if streaming video will make you go over your limit, then streaming them from here will too.
I'd strongly encourage Ed to burn them to DVD. Many, many people still don't have good access to internet that enables them to stream video. It takes me 20 minutes to load a 2 minute low quality youtube video on my dial-up connection. Video streaming is really great for some people, but it kinds sucks for some of us when it's the only option.

There will always be some of the videos that will never be available on DVD. Much of the reason for this is a security issue. Unfortunately ripping DVDs has become commonplace. This can’t happen with our down loads.
The files we stream are not overly large files. A 2 hour DVD is less than a gig. Connie is correct - in the near future we will offer customers the option of streaming at a lower bit rate. Of course when that happens the image quality suffers some. We are experimenting with what rate we feel is acceptable.
For those who are not aware - I recently bumped the video-on-demand to a 12 month rental. We are also working on a system where the customer will purchase a video-on-demand and have access to it as many times as they wish forever - just like I-Tunes. That’s a few months away though.
As far as data rates are concerned. Companies like Verizon are out of touch with reality. The fact is the future is streaming video and permanent access. Competition will force them to change.
