Just watched a show on TV. UK Riots are being blamed on youngsters with no future. If we want to avoid future rioters, we must stop making more children. There is a finite amount of resource in this world. Not every one in this world gets to eat, drink clean water, have health care or have an i-phone.
It does not matter if we are a rich country or poor country, once it gets "house full" then it is a down hill ride from there. The rich countries will try to stave it off a bit longer , thats all.
People who cannot provide for themselves cannot provide for their children..... Bitter pill to swallow. No politician in the world is willing to talk truth.

I read among those arrested were an olympic athlete, a ballerina, ect...those WITH fututes. What the hell does your rant about population control have to do with the riots? They're not rioting because they are over populated and starving.

FWIW, countries in the UK have about the lowest birthrates in the world and many have declining native populations. The US birth rate is just about stable.
So according to strict population logic, perhaps westernized countries should close their doors to immigration instead?
As far as youngsters with no futures, I kinda think those would be the kids dying in Africa due to lack of food and water. Not those using their Blackberry mobile devices to organize mayhem and wreck other peoples lives.
Other than that I don't think we can really armchair quarterback issues in other countries. Every country sure seems to have enough of their own issues to settle first.
My heart goes out to those innocent people whose lives and livelihoods are now in shambles because of the riots. And a huge Kudos to the groups that have organized to volunteer to clean up after the rioters.

I agree with you, Ram! I think the conversation about population control is long overdue!
@ Brain - People don't have to be 'starving' to riot, they just have to be unemployed and angry. There are too many people, and not enough jobs. So instead of going without, they just took what they wanted. The chaos was only to afford access to goods.
"Population density and social pathology" (1962a) Synopis: There was a rat-room experiment. Four breeding pairs of rats in a large room with plenty of food, water, and nesting material. They began to breed. The same amount of food and water were provided even as the population increased. There was peace among the rats until one point, the tipping point, when the population reached a critical threshold. First the female rats started raiding the other female rats nests and killing the pups, then it was all out war. Once the population fell, the violence stopped. But each time it reached the threshold, it started again.

And I'm not condoning the behavior, I'm just pointing out that there might be an explanation. I think it's just terrible and won't help the 'cause' at all!

I was watching a BBC show and there was a panel. There were people who were saying that the rioters were not at fault and the fact that they did not have a future is the reason for their criminal actions.
It was upsetting to watch. These rioters were taken care of by their government while there are people in the world who don't get to eat, drink or live. These people just did not have the nice things in life. That is no reason to riot.
And worse is the people who defend their criminal actions saying that they need to be taken care of instead of being corrected.
I was just pointing out that there is not enough resource in this world for every one to have the same standard of high living.
Either every one should have almost the same standard of living by dividing the resources. Or reduced population like scandinavian countries where they enjoy a relatively high standard of living for all.
And yes countries should think about strict immigration policies and stabilized population.
Please watch this video if you have the time. It is a lecture given by a professor from Colorado.

Ram, your country is ranked 33 on density of population, 368 per sq Km as opposed to the United States ranked 179 with a density of 32 persons per sq Km. Much of the US is habitable and suitible for agriculture. Most of the US population is on the coasts so the call for population control is a little unwarranted.

I know my country is going to implode very soon. We will continue to be alive, but wont have a life, if we do not stabilize our population.

I've always wondered why the Indians never have mass exodus like the Irish or other Europeans to the "New World"

Because most of our ancestors have learnt to live with very little. Like I said, we think being alive is equal to having a life. Ofcourse some of us are fortunate, but most of us have very little.
But mostly our land was able to supply the meager needs of an average Indian. (An other reason why we are vegetarians mostly, we can feed more people with less land) .
Slowly Indians and chinese want to live like americans and europeans. This is creating a serious impact on the world. Even if our standard of living(consumption of resources) raises by 5% , the quantum change in global resource consumption will be huge because of the massive population.
No amount of scientific innovations, discoveries, management of resources can keep in pace with population growth.
Unless we stabilize our population at some number there is no way out for us Indians.
