Guys: I have just read the book "Ruff Love" and wondered if anyone has read it and what they thought of taking your dog and keeping it in its crate until you work with it and of course you take it out to go potty and train it, but then put it back in its crate for the rest of the time. This happens for up to 6 months. I have 3 adult dogs, cody bindi and terra and love the crate games suggested, but not sure about the effect this crating would have on a very active dog.
Need trainer opinions. I am not a professional dog trainer. This method is supposed to develop your relationship with your dog.
Sounds like a very clinical approach to a pack structure program. I personally don't think it's necessary to be that draconian for most dogs, and especially not puppies. Something like that might be required for a particularly dominant or aggressive adult dog, but there is nothing magical about "6 months."
You don't need to put a dog in the crate during every idle hour to establish pack structure. There are other methods like keeping your dog on a leash in the house or by using play pens.
well I can see how your dog would become attached to you and I do see her idea, I am wondering if it will cause my dogs anxiety since they are so active. Thank you for your input. I think it is clinical. She gets great results with her dogs in their training and obedience and agility work.
Well we will see how I can taylor this to my pups. sharon
Why not just tether the dog to you while it's out of the crate? I'm thinking that will develop a better relationship with you then keeping in in a crate other then to piss and train.
