ALL of my classes this semester (THE LAST ONE WOOOOOT) are on two days a week....while this is wonderful in the sense it means I get super long weekends it also means that I'm leaving at 10am and getting back at 11pm... that is 13 hours two times a week....and there is no one who will be willing to let Ryuk out during the day and because of our location a dogwalker coming out would be REALLY expensive.
I have a 2 hour break between my 4pm class and my 7pm one...however the trip (without traffic) is 40 minutes one way, which is cutting it a little close especially at rush hour. Also Ryuk needs time to actually pee, not to mention we have no driveway, and the driveway was a road at one point... so it's a 5+ minute hike each way depending weather to get from the car to the house...this is before we add some good old New England snow to the equation)
Basically....Ryuk needs to come with me until we can figure out a better alternative. Luckily this is the winter semester and while the next few weeks may be tricky as we transition into the colder months, I think this could work out.
I would like to only crack the back windows. To do this I need to open them a little wider but I don't want to risk my car or dog's security. I plan on making it really fun to attempt opening the locks on the back doors from the outside. I've made two little snap on bars that will make it impossible to open the back door locks unless you're sitting in the seats. To be honest it's just a formality as my autolocks are broken so opening my car requires ninja like timing of turning a key and yanking the handle before it autolocks itself again, god forbid you catch body parts or clothes in it...I've lost entire shirts to this "bonus security feature"
My google-fu has been failing me, I'd like some type of window gaurd, the kind that either is held in place by rolling it up in a window or (even better) the kind that mounts to the inside of the window via being bolted in. Basically I'm looking for something that keeps dog noses in (not too big an issue), and more importantly the poking fingers out (much bigger an issue...it's a good way to loose a finger). I've found what I want "sorta" on a few sites but they're either the roll up kind that's wayyyy to super cheap and plastic and I think the weak motor of my windows alone could crush them...or they're the mounted kind designed for polices dogs that also come with a metal door gaurd to stop a bullet, cost over $400 before shipping, and only fit crown vics....
So, does anyone know of any open window gaurds that are metal or at least a little more solid than cheap pastic? Or a slightly less heavy duty (and not crown vic specific) version of the police dog window gaurds. Ideally heavy duty enough that I could clip a small battery powered fan (battery pack wired to the back of my headrest). I'm sure I could make something...but if anyone knows of some ready-made ones I'd be very interested...
....it had lots of talking about my bog....and my dude....and my God named Rake....
According to helper IPad I'm also asking for help (OMFG it just tried to correct that to kelp....KELP?! is that really a commonly used word?) finding window gourds...

Edit reason: ...great...now it's adding in extra words -_-
you can go to a home improvement store or a farm supply store they handle different shapes and sizes of metal. it should be easy to fabricate. i wouldn't trust plastic

Don't waste any money on the ones that are held in place by rolling the window up. My experience ... lasted about 2 seconds and the dog popped it right out.
Would a fficial&client=firefox-a >battery operated/rechargeable AC unit work better than cracking the windows open? The hot engine might heat up the inside of the car much faster than a cracked window cools it down... besides a window cracked open is always a security issue.
I'm interested in this myself, since I regularly take my dogs with me on short trips during the winter, but they can't go with me in the summer because of the 90+ degree weather and the fact that if I left the windows down they'd jump out to follow me.
I've thought about getting those police window guards but they're really expensive.
I don't much mind things screwing into my car doors. If it's the safest option I'll live with holes in the metal and just sealing it up to prevent rust. Do you have any idea where to find that stuff cheaper? Possibly second hand?
ETA the problem I have come across is finding the guards for a 99 Jeep Cherokee. Some places fabricate them to fit your car, but that's even more $$$ when I can just leave the poor bored dogs at home and come back to chewed up pillows :P
I've love the police guard things and have no problems screwing things into my doors (or door)
except they're really expensive and I do not have (and will NEVER own) a crown vic....I have a 1992 honda accord which I don't think any department in their right mind would ever own as a police car XD
