Today when I was exercising Izzy we were meet by 2 large aggressive unleashed dogs I was running with Izzy to the woods were we go regularly when I suddenly heard growling and out came two large dog and they immediately tried to get to Izzy who by that time was behind me ( she is not brave at all :blush I was kicking at the dogs when I heard the owner whistle which of course did nothing at all I don't understand why people leave untrained dog off leash ! I told them that there dogs need to be leashed and that I did not appreciate that their dogs tried to get to mine and she kept calling me honey and that they are out there all the time so it was okay I told them otherwise and of course they did not listen and walked away with there unleashed pups. I now have to find a new place for Izzy and I to enjoy
Yep, alot of STUPID dog owners out there. My dogs have been attacked 5 times now by loose, no recall dogs. My female has become dog aggressive because of it. Be careful.
Yes, it is infuriating! The worst part of it is that the people just don't get it nor do they have to deal with aftermath of what their untrained dog did to someone else's pet. I'm dealing with reactivity due to something similar. Be careful and carry mace.
Dawna, I have become very cautious walking my dogs around my neighborhood. Word is a lab and a pittie (who are yard dogs) have been getting out and cornering people. Including an old man. Be aware if you walk near 17th and Derdall!
I've been really lucky so far with no loose dog incidents, however, sometimes people can be just as stupid with a leash in their hands. Esp those darn flexi leads. A little girl was walking her Corgi with no adult and let it run up to my kids. I asked if it bites, she says "Sometimes." Not calling the kid stupid, just the parents who lets her take a biting dog for walks. grrr.
Amy, thanks for heads up! I'm surprised the whole neighborhood hasn't called animal control everytime they're out! I'm the bane of N. Village as it's known my husband and I have the dogcatcher on speed dial.
I agree about the flexi leads. I make my daughter walk her shih tzso on a nylon or leather leash and he's well behaved. I've also told her not to let him approach anyone as some people do not like dogs. However I agree that a child has no business walking a biting dog. Grr.. What were her parents thinking?
If you do you mace(pepper spray), make sure you spray with the wind at your back, otherwise you will spray yourself and your dog.
My husband said the same thing when he handed me my can. It's really good to know as it's the attacking dog or dogs that should get it not the responsible owner and their dog or dogs that are obeying the laws.

I always carry two cans. A very aggressive stray (chow/GSD?), that attacked my dog and I a few years ago, barely noticed the first can. The cans were fresh and sprayed right smack in his face at short range. Remember, you don't know just how hyped the unknown dog really is when you encounter them.
