We have an outstanding entry for this event -- 40 SchH3 dogs, 2 SchH2 and a gentleman going for his SchH1. Most of these dogs are Handler-Owner Trained.
After Helper tryouts this evening, we have three National-level helpers working the dogs -- Marcus Hampton, John Bohenchek, and Sean Murphy. We also had Albee Hastings and Dominic Scarberry, 17, put forth excellent efforts in the tryouts.
As is the MER's practice, we will posting the scores as quickly as possible -- generally as they are announced at the field.
We have a super raffle going on -- top of the bill are autographed footballs from the Steeler's Ben Rothelsburger and the Brown's Colt McCoy. Many vendors will be hawking their wares
Roni Hoff, a Leerburg moderator, will be trialing her very excellent male, Tobi. I will be trialing Nikki (Zerlinda vom Leerburg).
Wow, that link sure was interesting (to neophyte me anyway).
For some reason I thought these competitions were held with a dog performing all three phases back to back. Looking at the entry schedule I see that isn’t the case. Tracking could be the first morning, Protection the second afternoon and Obedience on day 3 or any mixture thereof.
I googled the distance and if it wasn’t 2500+ MILES away (mind you it said it could be done in 1 day and 20 hours), I would have definitely considered the trip, for the steak fry alone!!
I'm looking forward to reading (and trying to figure out :crazy what those scores mean.
It sounds like an exciting event. I hope you're all having a great time and wishing you (and Mr. Just) the best of luck!!!
LOL… geeze Betty, never thought of how taxing it may be on the handlers.
I understood you could title in one or two of the phases but didn’t realize the full titles were also done in separate phases. Very good to know!!
I think I’ve been watching too many… let's say “Ring” videos because I really can’t tell the difference between French and Mondio either. It seems like they kind of flow the different obedience aspects right into the protection work.
And I’ve seen very few Schutzhund tracking videos, just assumed it was all part of a “routine”.
Okay, I’ll sit back now and keep my ignorance from shining through too brightly.
I do find it extremely interesting when these things are posted though. One day hopefully I’ll learn enough to know what I’m actually looking at… lol.

It really does create a true luck of the draw some times, especially on large trials. People that pull tracking day one can have beautiful tracking conditions and day 2 could be up to their you know what in rain and mud and wind....
I'm not sure why they do it that way, if it's to allow the dogs to rest or if it is easier on the judges.
If you ever get the chance to see a National Level trial it can really be beautiful.

Yes, I’m sure it is. Had it been a little closer or had I planned a little better, I’d of been there in a heartbeat.
It sounds phenomenal. What a learning experience that would be. And the quality of the judges, their bios anyway, are very impressive.
Being at this impressionable stage in these sports, I’d really like to see one of these big events (the ones performed and judged to the highest standards).
That luck of the draw sounds really interesting too. I guess that's where the diversity of these dogs (and some good weather proofing) comes in. I think the judging would be fascinating to watch, not to mention a really difficult job.
Can I ask another question? And I don’t mean to call anybody out but I’m very curious.
In the results so far, the #39 entry has a percentage sign under the “C”, which in correlation with the schedule is the Protection phase. Then under the total it says “No Out”.
Am I to assume that this already SchH3 titled dog would not “out” off the helper when commanded to do so? Or does this mean something totally different?

I haven't looked at the web site but if it says no out the dog was disqualified because he did not out.
I haven't trained Schutzhund in a while but I believe you are given the chance to give the command 3 times. (With points dropping like dead flies) and if they fail to out on the third you are done....
Handler gives the command, (verbal only).
Seen dogs that have competed Nationally and have trialed at a Sch3 level repeatedly refuse to out.
